Golf GTi 1.8T Intermittent Power Loss
« on: 23 April 2012, 21:13 »
I am having intermittent power loss in my golf, it is mainly in the mornings. Does anyone have an idea of what it could be? I have recently had a service. Also last week had an air filter and spark plugs changed.

Cheers

Why unplug the MAF??

Buy a vagcom cable of ebay and get it scanned.
Who ever has a 1.8t this cable is a must!!
Unplugging sensors etc wont solve nothing, Your better off scanning the car mate.

Yeah I can see the logic but we all know 1.8t's have all sorts of gremlins which could cause "Intermittent power loss"

So your better off buying - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-USB-DIAGNOSTIC-CABLE-409-1-OBD2-II-LEAD-VAG-COM-/330399696070?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item4ced5b44c6

Get it scanned and go from there. Or maybe explain a little better what sort of symptons you have?
What engine code have you got?
Does it feel boggy?
Sound like it missfiring?
Is it using more fuel than usual?

This is another good link - http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?2666114-1.8t-Technical-Forum-Guide-FAQs-Tuning-Modification-Assistance-Troubleshooting

Hope this helps mate.

i predict.. 17705  or could be a coilpack on it's way out.

as suggested you really need to see if there are any fault codes stored before making guesses. Don't unplug the MAF that is not good advice in your situation. Only under certain circumstances that becomes a good idea.

EGR on a 1.8T jay? you sure about that?

17705 is the fault code for boost leaks that plagues me7 1.8T owners. you need to spend more time in the mk4 section and leave the rusty mk2s behind
