PLEASE HELP, hit some water, have spark and fuel.

as title, going about 20/30 in the high street, approching a round about and hit some standing water, on the passenger siden.

as i come round the round about it started to missfire and then stall. had green flag out and he said theres fuel, spark and no signs of damge ie valves as it turns over freely, he checked in the dizzy cap and no water or even a sign of condensation.

thing is ive done this before when i jet washed the car and it knocked out and wouldnt start for 3 hours , but this time it just wont have any of it.

any one got advise on why? if theres fuel and a spark. thinking along the lines of water in to connections that control timing. would that be housed on the passenger side? really really need the car so hopefully some one can help, other wise its of to scrappy heaven, which wouldnt be half a bad thing as id get a mk4 golf 1.8t. but for now i want to be able to get going!!!

if there is fuel and spark it should start....  Something not quite right there.

What engine is it?

Obvious thought is the crank sensor (if you have one) which is under the oil filter at the bottom front - so when the wires start to break some water is enough to short them and cause the engine to stop / misfire etc.

Otherwise, maybe grounds which are on the passenger side under/near battery?

It will be the coil pack just make sure its turned off and blast in with WD40 works for me every time

Perfect coil failure situation there....the coil will often give a weak spark, when put under high compression in a cylinder its much harder for that spark to jump across the plug,  so the tester will see a spark, but not strong enough to start it,   try WD40 to see if it help, but be warned, WD40 can also seal water in,  and also be warned the coil pack will most likely die even if you do get it back to life,  so get a new one if it does turn out to be the coil.

ok. strange things happened this morning, went out and it started right up, so left it to run and tick over, went to drive away and it went lumpy and stalled. wouldnt start for a few cranks then has been fine all day no hitches not even a missfire.

im very very confussed, other then water shorting something out, and i wonder if its something ill ever find. see ive been driving in very heavy ran and the cars never complained, so... im stumped,

this happened before when i jet washed the engine, but that caused a little water to get in to connectors and make the points in the dizzy cap to burn out, or at least it was worn
