Golf cost more at the outset, but will sell for more too when you've finished with it. Insurance is the simple fact its a Golf GTI, therefore the thiefs of yester year used to steal them lots, and they got thrashed by boy racers. Its just about the name and whats associated with the brand of car. I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and say that fr body kit looks like a 17 year old with a bit of cash has been given licence to run amock!  :undecided: I would go with the Golf personally despite the higher insurance quote. Just my opinion though.

Seat hands down, except I'd get the Cupra K1. The k1 is the touring kit. Interior is basic, seats I found nice but the dash was basic but more than adequate for use.

I like the Leon's.

For standard models, I think the Leon is much better looking that the Golf. I like how it keeps a good useful shape whilst still being very stylish (the Astra 3 door for example looks good but isn't as practical).

For performance models I prefer the subtlety of the GTI over the Cupra models. The K1 is great looking both in pictures and on the road but it's just a bit aggressive for my own taste.

Interior wise I'd say the Leon falls a bit short of the Golf but I have to say, it's hardly something to complain about. Having been in a friends K1 it's not exactly a bad place to be. I actually quite like the Leon interior. It's just that I prefer the Golf's.

To be honest, of the two cars you have suggested, I'd go for the Seat. It's a bit more unusual (most FR's are diesel), it's a bit younger (age/less miles) and it's cheaper for insurance. The saving in cost is also a bonus.

Just don't put a K1 kit on it. Leave that for the folks that actually have the K1.

My parents have a Leon TDI140.

Great car, goes very well and fuel economy's OK (not THAT good though).

I absolutely wouldn't have one though.  All of the frequently touched soft-touch contact points have fallen to pieces.  It is singularly not durable and for that reason I would hate owning it myself.  The exterior's not that bad - you only see it when you walk up to the car, but all the time you're in the car you can see the interior and it'd annoy the hell out of me.

Go Golf - you won't regret it.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Have a wander over to the Mk5 section. they might shed a bit more light in terms of DSG reliability. Mine has not had any problems since I got it in 2008. The only problem is that when I stick in Sport mode it's a right beast.
