Front top mount nut
« on: 21 April 2012, 15:55 »
I've got to drill out the top of my old strut to get it off as the nut has seized and the allen key hole has split, can i buy this nut seperately and what size is it or do i need to get a top mount kit?

You will need to get one from the dealers think it is 21mm as have just done mine.

Have you tried some plusgas penetrating fluid and an impact wrench as  that may free it. If you've not got an impact wrench I would pop along to your local garage and bung them a fiver and they should do it for you.

I've got an impact socket (the type you hit with a big hammer) so i'll try that tommorow, otherwise just drill it out as i've got different struts to fit.
Cheers..

That was quick Mate....fitting them already. Fair play. As suggested I usually nip to the local tyre bay and they crack them off for a fiver and they will re tighten them for you. Miles easier than messing around and when they are cracked the job sjould only take an hour.

Done one side, other side has a seized top nut and the allen hole is split  so i'll try an impact socket on it or drill it out.
P.S, nice to meet you mate and thanks for bringing the shocks down, well worth the money..

It's plenty low enough for me and its a great improvement to the look of the car, i'll get a Vr front splitter to finish it off.
Out of interest is it possible to drill the top of the strut and still save the nut or does all need to go?

Drilling will kill it but don't you have a spare as you should have the original two off motor and the spare one on the complete strut off me. Look forward to seeing some pics when fitted. Are you changing the rears as well ??

Yes! of course....i'm not thinking straight today, there is one on the complete strut.
I'll probably do the rears next weekend and put up some pictures then.

p.s, i need to drill out the upper strut nut, there is a lower strut nut on the one you gave me but i'll still need another upper one.
