Strange question...

Strange question...

Taking 2nd gear as an example, on the same road, conditions, weight, starting revs etc...

If I squeeze my accelerator to put the power down, I get far more of a 'pushed into the seat' feeling then if I just plant the accelerator into the floor and then let it red line.

Does anybody know why this is?

I've not noticed the TC light kick in or anything when planting my foot right down...

Thanks,

PS Car is a manual, stage 1 r-tech remapped.

You'll lose acceleration as wheel spin & hop if you floor it. A more progressive right foot will allow more of the power to be transferred to the road, giving you that pushed back feeling

I used to get this and used to ask the same question.

I believe it's because when you accelerate by flooring it you're accessing all the performance in one go so it's only one magnificent rush, but when you accelerate progressively the power is consistently building and so it feels like the car is more powerful.

As for the traction control, that seems a bit strange...

... unless you have some sort of problem with your throttle or some sensor on the car. A friend did have a problem with his MAF sensor that cut power when he floored it.

I've also noticed the same thing. Car seems to accelerate even quicker if you "pump" the pedal first then squeeze it. By this I mean if you accelerate hard, come off the throttle for a second then accelerate again.

Its down to pressure ratios each side of the throttle plate, if you progress the pedal in a linear manner the throttle valve will open partial and linear which speeds the low down air flow up and getting the turbo upto speed faster which gives a feeling of stronger power.

In short your getting the turbo spooling faster in lower rpm where flow is not an issue.  This is because the air flow speeds up as the past the throttle plate.

There maybe other factors to your feeling,  ie the placebo effects in the med9 ecu which try to make the car feel more responsive under certain conditions.
Then the factors related to the fuel strategy linear throttle progression with keep the lean double injection in play, the leaner around 0.97 lambda which will burn and give more power than running the WOT fuel maps of 0.82 - 0.81 which are richer and used to aid combustion cooling a compromise in power to keep engine safe.

When going to stage2 this feeling can be ironed out as the fuel strategy will be set more towards power and fuel maps leaner to get a better combustion.
