Just got me an Ipad3 64gb
« on: 20 April 2012, 12:44 »
Just got myself an Ipad3 64gb:smiley:

I'm not really up with Apple products tbo...... I've only ever owned a second generation Ipod so lots to learn.

I got it from PC World for £579. I also went for 2 year insurance on top of that for £65. I don't normally opt for insurance however the Ipad's look pretty breakcable to me especially with a 3.5 year old running abut the house.

I wouldnt worry to much about damage if you buy a decent leather case, taken my ipad on holiday, work all sorts never had any issues with damage.

I use mine mainly for watching films, just use handbrake to convert films to mp4 as i refuse to pay the itunes price for them.

they're pretty hardy devices, my sister's kids are nuts and everything is broke within a month or two but it's lasted nearly a year  or she hasn't said it's broke

Yes I can see me watching films on the Ipad.

So where do you normally download films from then (legally )  Also how do you transfer the films on to the Ipad?

Sorry a novice with regard to this.

If you don't download a film on the iPad from the official iTunes store, then the other way to get a film on the iPad is:
Download film on PC > convert to mp4 file (.mov usually) > open iTunes software on PC > import the file > then plug iPad into the PC > when iPad pops up in iTunes copy the film to the iPad.
Sadly you have to use the iTunes software, you can't just drag and drop like you can with a flash drive.

If you install the BBC iPlayer app on the iPad you can watch a few movies on that, but you can't download them to keep.
Of course there's also Lovefilm for watching films but again you can't download them to keep.

There are a few free videos/tv episodes to download from iTunes if you can be bothered to look for them.

I got the avplayer hd app and it plays all the popular movie formats (like MKV, avi, flv). Essential app.

To load MKV and avi files to avplayer hd simply drag and drop the files in itunes. so simple.

You don't need to plug it in to the computer I transfer mine by wifi, I convert mine to mp4 as it means I can AirPlay them to my apple tv when on holiday. I also have Netflix on mine which is good for tv series & older films plus I player,4od etc etc

With handbrake you can also convert your DVD's & have them on your iPad.

Thanks for the replies regarding how to watch films.

I'm liking the sound of this handbrake.
