i've never heard of fuel getting in the inlet unless its a carb

the inlet gets red hot so any petrol should really be evaporated......

petrol does seep passed the pistons and into the oil but the oil it that hot it gets burned up or
evaporates and gets sucked back through the engine by the crankcase breather! along with water
and other combustion by products...... and you wouldnt notice that!!

are you sure it wasnt water vapour it forms everywhere when the engne cools down!
ever opend the bonnet early morning! your engine will be covered with mist of water!

this is why its good to let the engine warm up completely everytime you start it as short jurneys
kill engines by allowing water to combine with piston by products and produce acids which attack
metals!

with is anothe reason to use the best oil!

im pretty sure its fuel could smell it last time i took the boot off form the mfa had oil seeping down it not fresh but just dirty old oil that wasnt really going anywhere but this time just at the opening on the inlet was what i thought was water put my fingers in it and the smell was definitly fuel how long it had been there i dont know and there wasnt huge amounts was just wet.
