Hi, got some Mk2 question's.....
« on: 03 June 2005, 17:48 »
Hey there!

A few things really...

i need to replace the sunroof wind deflector and arms. Are these common with the Mk1 or unique to each model? Also, could you advise where best to get them.

secondly, one of the leccy windows is a bit random deciding wether it wants to work or not! How do i remove the switch from the centre panel to check the connections?

Car is my partners, not mine, so i'd rather get some advice before just ploughing in and making a bodge job!

Ta :)

oh yeah, and the rev counter doesnt work either!

it's a 1991 gti Mk2 8v if that makes any difference to how the rpm works... any advice on what goes on them or how to fix?

Hi

Check the wires on the ignition coil. if one has come of then thats the rev counter problem solved. common for mk2 clocks to mess up. If thats the case then ive got a set for you

DONT pull the leccy window switch out. Take a switch blank out and push out the leccy switch from behind. swap the switches around and see if that solves your problem.

Ive also got a mint set of arms and wind deflector for you if its for a mk2

how much for the deflector and arms and whereabouts are you?? hopefully they'll be well cheap - got made redundant last week so funds slowly draining! ;) :)

window switch sorted. musta been a dirty connection cos all i did was unplug it and plug it back in and it seems to work ok :)

think i found the coil?? looking in the engine bay, towards the front and right side, sat on the atarter... is that it? theres a red/black wire connecting inside a rubber boot, the spade connector was filthy, but still no rev meter. closer inspection on the clocks reveals that someone has had them out before, and the crappy job done of refitting it suggests they didnt know what they were doing...so i think i need to have the clocks out to check the wiring n stuff.

soooo...... how does all that lot come apart then? i'd just dig in and have a bash, but its the only vehicle in the household, so i need to be able to strip, check and refit in an evening...

ta :)

Thats the starter solonoid you're talking about I think, the coil is bolted to the back of the engine bay under the rain tray.  Its about the size of a Red Bull can and has the centre lead from the distributor plugged into it.

I have exactly the same problems as you!!!!

I went into VW and they want £70 for the deflector.. I am trying to find a decent one from a scrapyard but most are rotten

with the rev counter try pulling out the fuse for the clocks. on my car it was the second fuse on the right. this is suppose to reset something and works for some people. It didn't work for me though  :embarassed:

Blue mk2, how much are you selling the clocks and sunroof stuff? i need 140 mph clocks which seem quite hard to find there are loads of 120 & 160 mph clocks has anoy one seen set for sale??
