cracked manifold symptoms?
« on: 18 April 2012, 20:24 »
I'm getting a pulsing sound that I can only describe as an exhaust leak under load at the mo and I can't work out where it's coming from...

What would be the symptoms of a cracked manifold? I'm struggling to replicate it as I don't really wat to get under the car while someone is revving the nuts off it on axle stands but it might come to it lol

Take the heat shield off thats attached to the rocker cover, opens the turbo area  up nicely, plenty of room to fit your hands around the area without actually touching it

*Edit* this is providing youve got a fmic and ditched the standard 'hotside' intercooler piping

nah the twinpass coolers retain all the standard pipework down that way.

I'll pull as much as I can out of there at some point, either that or I'll take it out to West Wellow Racing and get DH to stick it up on the ramps while I stick some load on it lol

Like chris101 said if you can clear some space around it to get your hand in there you can feel the gases blowing out, just had problems with mine with trying to find where its leaking from and did it that way.

And I seem to remember you had an uprated one to go on anyway?

motavation to fit the uprated one!

My point entirely, hoping this isnt the new one though

If you want mate, I can get it pressure tested for cracks if you need it?

Cracked manifolds tend to make a ticking noise tbh.
