Oil catch can kits - Any Interest
« on: 18 April 2012, 12:07 »
Hi Guys

I am just wondering if anyone would be interested in Oil catch can kits for the 1.8T engines.

I am finalising the kit for my car and looking to install shortly.

Please see link below for advice on the set up.

http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/269734.aspx

I have spent all weekend reviewing this and decided to go down this route to eliminate potential boost leaks etc. I am guessing most of you guys probably done this mod before, however I would like to share the idea with those who haven't.

The kit I am putting forward is very similar to the set up which some of you guys use, which include the 19mm catch can from Japan which most of you guys purchase. Doing this obviously you will have a long lead time on the can itself plus a cost for importing etc, so you could end up spending a fair bit in total.

My kit however will consist of the catch can, hose, t piece and jubilee clips.

The spec of the catch can is below:

Manufactured from 3” x 3mm wall Aluminium Tube, 3mm Aluminium end plates and ¾” x 1.6mm wall Aluminium tube coming out as detailed, 1 off bracket on rear and 1 off tapped fitting for drain screw under – natural finish. 19mm outlets and inlets which helps engine breath better.

Catch cans on ebay are mostly 9mm or 15mm outlets and inlets.

I am looking to sell the kit at a decent price with extremely good lead times, however before i put price up delivered, I want to ensure I havent done anything wrong on the forums as all I am doing is offering you guys a working solution from the UK.

All advice,comments and interested appreciated

well at the moment, most of the kits the guys are running on there 1.8T, the catch can with the 19mm connections come from Japan, which takes up to 3 weeks for the can along and then you still have to order the pipe etc.

The can from japan comes in at $105usd, plus $36usd delivery plus another £20 for import charge along with the time scales. $105 + $36 works out to £88 delivered, plus further £20 which is £108 for the catch can alone.

My kit, i have full control of the fabrication and release a full price shortly delivered to your door. The can is a very similar design to the japanese one and extremely suitable and proven to work on the 1.8T engines. Its not the usual 9mm or 15mm ebay specials, and it will also come with the T-piece and hose for the job.

with risk of sounding stupid, what does a catch can actually do?

see this was my original idea as I bought one of these cans however when you make the stainless steel fixing 19mm, you still have the restriction further into the fixings, so no point in having 19mm.
on my cans, its 19mm inlets and outlets all the way through...

I will release prices when I have fitted the kit because I want to offer you guys various options in terms of the hoses, colours etc. my can is in progress, so hopefully can get this fitted asap really, going to put pictures up and then give the prices etc....

yes i have fitted it with no probs its all in the prep  pipes are very very tight as you say but it is just about doable there was a thread on it all a few weeks ago and like i said then theres always room for improvement with everything  it was a quick pop into engineering place asked the chap if he can make these into that and here we go no real thought or faffing around job done
as for the restriction i aint noticed any at all its arguable that it does but if anything it stops all the sh!te from going back up through as there is no filter in it which is summat else that needs to be sorted
