I've got a bit of a dilema.

I've owned a '86 8v Gti for about 7 or 8 years now, it's been stored for about the last 5 years or so. I stopped using it as we had kids and wasn't very practical anymore. Whatever I do with the car it will need some money spending on it to get it back on the road.

The question is it worth restoring, it will need some bodywork doing. Truth be told, probably a full respray (which I could tackle myself) fix the oil leak etc and sell it on. An I likely to see a decent return on in vs the cost spent on it?

Or should I just get the car MOTed fit new brakes and do some track days?

The car it a pearl blue, I forget what the name of it. It is lowered 40mm and has Toyo Tr1's. Other than the lowering springs, it's standard. Oh and it has the bigger bumpers.

Any pics?

If its got a good shell, then keep it.

Track car or road car, I guess that's up to you depending on how much use you'll get from each option.

CHUFF, you sound like a purist. The bigger bumpers always looked a bit sh!t on the the car as the previous owner didn't fit them very well.  Might have to put some original bumpers back on.

The shell is good. There are a couple of rust spots on the rear quarter under the trim. Has a couple of dents here and there. but nothing major.

Forgot to mention that it does has (lightly) tinted back windows, black BBS alloys and 16v rear lights, painted calipers. OMG, I've just realised it's a chav mobile

I'm at work at the moment, images from forums are blocked so I can't see that,  but yes, it has the early front doors with the split glass. I was never a fan of these. I always wanted to change them, thats why I only tinted the back and not the front doors.

It's helios blue btw. Is Helios blue a popular colour? I've never seen another car on the road in that colour since I've had mine.
