Hey!

I've been into Minis for the past year, and still am, but as my current Mini is turning more into a project that needs some work and a bit of off-the-road attention, I've decided to look into the possiblity of having it garaged up to keep as a project, and get another car to get about my usual business in!

Only thing with the above is, I want something cool and classic! I figured the likes of a Beetle, 2CV or Fait 500 would be hard to stumble across and use as an everyday car, and another Mini would be the same story all over, so I decided to look at other maybes.. And I've always had an eye for the Mk2 Golf.. I like it's mean bulky expression, and after having a few breif conversations with an owner of one, I'm tempted to get my own!

I've came about the forum to hopefully get more information about them! Any chance somebody could help me out with a list of models that came in Mk2, and their engine sizes? Were there standard Mk2 and limited editions? etc

Also, whats the chances of picking up a 1.3? Most Mk2s I see for sale are 1.6, and 1.8 and 2.0 GTIs, which arn't really much good to me! Trying to bend around a few insurance quotes before I consider buying one!

Thanks for any help, no doubt you guys will see me floating between topics!

Welcome to the forum, there's a few on here from Northern Ireland now and there's also another member (Horney) who has a pretty sweet mini so you might be able to help each other there. As for the mk2, you can get them in 1.3 but are few and far between these days, I guess the engines didn't hold up as well as the GTIs, best bet would be to put a thread in the mk2 section and you will get a few replies to your questions.

Thanks for the welcome guys!

gibby, recongised Horney from good old Minifinity, any other Mini fanatics lurking about? I promise not to start any "Whats better between Golf & Mini?" threads!

Will take a venture over to the Mk2 section with my questions, thanks!

Not sure there's many mini fanatics but there's deffo an appreciation on here for them, cult motors with a strong following, very similar to the golf GTI.

P.S. Golf's are better though !
