Hello! And a question...
« on: 14 April 2012, 20:23 »
Hi,

Just found this forum so I thought I should say hello, I picked up a 2009 GTi today but I have just had a bit of a strange drive home!

After sitting in london traffic enjoying the dsg doing all the work, the car threw a bit of a fit...

The engine management light came on and the car started running very rough and was down on power. There was also a bitter smell coming in to the cabin.

After swearing so much I lost my voice I pulled over, opened the bonnet to see the engine rattling around. I turned off the ignition and allowed myself and the car a moment to calm down. When I started her up again the problem was still there so I set off back home but after 100 yards or so everything seemed to clear up and the car was running fine. I gave it a quick blast down a dual carriageway and used all the gears and it seems to be ok. Naturally I am concerned about this having only picked up the car today after a loooong wait and I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow, but I thought I should ask if anyone here has experienced anything similar?

Other than that I love the car!

TIA,

Max

Welcome to the forum.

If the light came on then it should have logged a fault code, so best bet would be to get that checked out and see if it says anything useful

Good luck,
Scott

I will definitely be calling the dealer tomorrow, I am really fcuked off. It's the last thing I expected from a VW, especially coming from a main dealer. They were closed by the time this happened.

Its a 59 plate 5 door GTi in black with 18's, DSG, Leather, NAV and a few other toys. I'll take some pictures when its light and I work out how to upload them!

Hopefully there will be someone there who can read the fault codes. Need the car for work on Monday so want this sorted ASAP.

Thanks for all your replies

Hi mate, welcome to the forums. Once the dealer has it I'm sure they'll know exactly what the problem is and get it sorted.
