Water leaking in through the door seals...
« on: 14 April 2012, 08:06 »
Driving down to Glasgow the other weekend with the ED35, it started to rain quite heavy and all of a sudden water started to drip down through the doors seals..

Has anyone come across this one before...thinking about going back to the dealer and getting them to check or replace the seals....

Apart from that it was a great drive down, the ed35 did the business...

My 10 plate GTD has both front seat outer bolsters 'drip' marked with water stains, I'm unsure if the seals actually leak now (we've had so little rain!) or the previous owner had it sorted, but I'm holding off cleaning the bolsters until next service (June....ish) and will bring it to the attention of the dealer.
If you look at the design of the door seals, I'm surprised we don't hear of more cars that leak!
I try to keep the top sealing edges of the doors scrupulously clean and make sure there's nothing interfering with the rubber or 'felt' of the seals.
I think the way a lot of cars are designed now, (with no roof 'sill' of years ago, or with the tops of doors encroaching into the roof area) if either of the front doors are opened in the rain (or just after a downfall) water will run off the roof straight into the interior!

they don't build them like they used too

if you have a 5 door check the rubber seal where the front door closes onto the back door.

I bet there is a tear in it (where the window frame meets the door skin) from where the door rubs on the seal. every 5 door I've seen has this.

Bloody hell , just went out in the dragons 35 ed , a small pool of water on the drivers rubber mat and water on the trim near the bonnet pull.

A phone call to the dealer on Monday me thinks.

That sweaty sock from north of the border has cast a spell .

mine never leaked but its always garaged overnight

what i have noticed though if the car is wet and you open the door the water runs down the seal to the front of the door so next time you open the door (without moving the car so the water disperses i mean) it pisses in all over the dash and door card. its a very poor design

I've found on - occasion - the same happens with the boot lid, open it whilst wet and water rushes along the edges and runs off into the boot!.... Never had any of this with the Bora! Grrr.

My mk6 leaked pretty bad from the passengers door, so much that it was in for a month and i told them i wasnt taking the car back untill they replaced the whole carpet and underpadding, which they did. Mine was so wet that if i pressed my finger into the carpet, a small puddle would form around my finger it was that saturated. A month it took them to sort it and theres still a bit of a damp smell in it, hence the fact im getting rid.
