AHF / ASV Engine difference
« on: 12 April 2012, 15:06 »
SO.

Those who have seen I cocked it right up and have managed to bend a rod in the 4.

I have an ASV which is a 110 non PD lump.

To rebuild I'm looking at approx £800, possibly a bit cheaper.

To source another ASV engine they are about £500 - £800.

The AHF looks identical and is also a 110 and uses the same turbo etc.

I can pick one of these up for about £250 - £300.

I've done a lot of reading trying to find the difference and all I can find is that the ASV is a quicker lump, but noisier.

Figures state they should be the same power, torque etc etc etc.

Can anyone confirm differences for me as i've go the route of getting a new lump I don't want to pay over the odds for something that is essentially the same.

Cheers!

the asv is the newer model of the ahf. they are pretty much the same except the asv has some kind of injectors that squirt oil onto the pistons which keeps the pistons cooler and aids lubrication. how did you bend a rod anyhow? what was the milage on it? but the ahf will slot straight in

Exactly the answer I needed, thankyou for that.

Bent rod is from user error when cleaning the turbo.

BIG HELP! thankyou

Bingo.

It's running really bad, struggling on startup, blue smoke, mpg down and suspected low compression on 3. Just need to pull my finger out and test it.

If I switch to an AHF will I need the matching ecu too?

Not sure yet - depends on the ecu. Might opt to get it rebuilt as it's on 113k, or look to sling it in the back of the volksrod once rebuilt later down the line.

as far as i know the ecu stays the same as all electrics are the same. should be plug and play from what i understand. there would be plenty of life left in that engine after replacing the rod. theres an asv engine for 475 on there at the mo. remember they used the asv in seat leons and skodas too
