Help.. De-swirling a black magic mk3
« on: 11 April 2012, 20:19 »
Hi peeps

Being having a look round for a 2nd hand da on the side of cheap, lol

Not much turned up as yet, but being offered a Sealey MS900PS which seems to be a reasonable machine polisher, for prob a older unit.

Obv Ive read the horror stories but seems as long as you keep level and not too fast you aintgonna damage the paint..

Swirl marks are fairly obvious so maybe it would be a decent try,

So what pads/chemcials would u recommend to give it a good polish And also reduce the swirls...

Would it be better to reduce the pad size just I've seen a few 6.5" pads but this is 7" so bit unsure etc

If I'm totally wrong let me know :)

Cheers fellers

i was struggling from your first post to decipher whether you were asking for advice or telling us what we needed to do when machine polishing?

have you had a look in the detailing guides and FAQ? its all there...

Hi guy

Sorry! Asking for advise!

I'll check it and edit,

asking for advice on the polisher as its not a da polisher.. Not sure weather it's a good choice?

Have had a read of the section, and have a idea, just wondering what you would recommend pad wise and polish wise with that polisher if it's a good idea...

Or should I leave well alone until I can afford a da polisher?

Cheers

If you've not used either a DA or a rotary before then you're probably best off beginning with a DA

Cheers Dom, I thought that to be honest, only trouble is not seen any second hand ones as yet, would love a meguires one but the g220 is 160 odd quid :( plus all the polishes and stuff..

Looks like its gonna be a epic fail!  :(

My dad has a compressor so maybe I could look at air driven DAs  just its tricky to get there to use it...

What to do  :undecided:     Lol

Have to check fleabay again

I like to have a look on the bay for a good deal but they're few and far between tbh, i'm just gonna get one of these.

http://www.autobritedirect.co.uk/index.php/polishing-prep-waxing/machine-polishers-polishing-kits/kestrel-das-6-dual-action-polisher.html

For as much as it'll get used i don't see the point in spending a fortune.
Currently pootling around in our family wagen, a Tiguan SEL 😂

Hi jimble

Yeah I read about these in a review with the g220 and it came out very well comparatively.. Did as good of a job, can't remember where the review is cos I'm on my phone but if I remember I'll post it up..

Will be looking out for a 2nd hand one in the meantime, maybe I'll scoop the euro tonight so be able to buy everyone one :)

I bought a DAS 6 Pro from Clean Your Car .co.uk & managed to get a £20 discount with a code for a group buy I found by doing a Google search, total cost of the machine was £99 including a nice canvas storage bag. Great service & quick delivery from them too!

I was planning on looking for a 2nd hand one but to be honest they were selling for strong money so ended up buying new. You end up spending a fortune on polishes & pads mind...

However, I've used mine on a slightly swirly Mk4 magic black pearl & have been really impressed with the results & all I've been using the machine polisher with is Autoglym UDS, Poorboys Blackhole & Poorboys Glaze.

Yeah I've just bought a DAS6 Pro from CYC using that deal too :) Very quick delivery! I ordered my pads and stuff from Juicy Detailing as CYC had run out of most of the CG Hex-logic range.

Ended up going for three hex logic pads and a set of 3 sonus polishes, couple of rolls of 3M blue tape and a load of other bits and bobs.

Not had a chance to use any of it yet!!
