2.0 8v gti fuel problem
« on: 10 April 2012, 20:13 »
hi guys wonderin if anyone could help. had my gti for 4 months now and it has started slightly playing up. first of all i noticed it was juddering slightly i thought it may have been a misfire then 2 days later the engine light came on and was using more fuel than usual getting only 17mpg on average rather than 28 what used to get. had AA out and it came up with 10 minor faults which he cleared off and was fine he said seems like misfire due from spark plugs or coil pack. there is also a slight tapping type metal sound when i rev engine sounds like coming from cat area and also engine light has come back on.

i havent got chance to get it looked at yet due to work so need help what it could be i looked on google and noticed could also be lamba sensor. i may just get AA back out now light has come back on lol

firstly ide buy a code reader, they constantly come in handy. and will no doubt tell you what is wrong.

coilpacks on certain mk4s have a recall out so get in touch with vw see if they will replace them for you FOC under the recall, think its only certain 1.8t's though but worth a shot.

as for what it is could be anything, if you get a code reader on it, it should throw up a fault and help diagnose what it is.

2.0 8v has one coil unit which is not under the VW recall
