Ah right, not sure how to change the shutter speed yet,i thought i was being all technical getting my tripod out till i ripped the skin on my fingers opening the bloody thing!
Ebaying now for the lens.
Any other must have i need?Battery grip jobby?Them polarizing thingys for the end?
I wouldn't bother with using a tripod if it's a bright day. You only really need a tripod if you are going to use slow shutter speeds.
As for the next purchases,
1) a case or bag
2) spare battery
3) spare memory card
4) zoom lens 55-200 or similar
5) 50mm f1.8 lens (also known as a 50mm prime or "nifty-fifty")
6) polarising filter - used for a) improving the blue colour in the sky on bright days or b) reducing reflections
You could get these in any order really, but you need a case for sure. The 50mm lens will teach you a lot about composing your shots and depth of field, and it's much better quality glass. (Check out my thread
comparing the kit lens to the 50mm, it's not for a Canon camera but the it gives you an idea of the quality difference)
I wouldn't bother with a battery grip until you're more experienced and confident otherwise you're just adding weight pointlessly.
I would spend plenty of time learning about composition and the rule of thirds (see
here), focus points, ISO, shutter speed, aperture and depth of field (see
here).
