r32/vr5 170 bhp factory xenons..
« on: 08 April 2012, 21:17 »
hey people i own a mk4 1.8t & recently brought a mk4 vr5 with factory xenons which i'd like to fit into my 1.8t...  :undecided: has anybody done this? there seems to be two loom plugs on either headlight on the xenons & theres just one on the standard lights.. plus theres no height adjustment on the dash (up/down) in the v5, like my 1.8t, is it a case of changing the loom? any help would be fab! thanks!

Can be done but you need loom adaptors and the rheostat mod

The xenons on the v5 have auto levelling sensors which are fitted to the suspension and level the light beam according to the height of the car. So its not just a case of swapping over switches.

The link Rich posted is a guide on how to make the wiring adaptors and re-wire the xenon headlamps so that the light beam can be controlled via the switch on the dash.

You could sway the auto levelling sensors over to the 1.8t but it might be easier to swap the 1.8t engine into the v5

You'd have to make up a wiring loom the opposite of the xenon loom

thanks steve' seems like like alot of effort might just leave them as they are.. you saying about an engine swap i've been thinking about that.. i drove the vr5 back from northampton on saturday and was amazed! never drove one before talk about smooth & comfortable not to mention the noise of it, it sounds awesome! its the 20v 170 bhp & its totally standard! i did'nt want to get out of it lol. huge difference in driveability compared to my 1.8t, was thinking about getting rid of the 1.8t & keeping it but as i said its standard with santamonica's & not liking the colour (lime green).. my 1.8t looks the b**locks visually & it owes me a fortune but has got sky high mileage.. so its something im thinking about that conversion, running costs i dont think theres going to be a huge difference in it..

That's a good guide you linked there rich that guy seems to know what he's talking about

Making up the adaptors or buying them from Kufatec is the difficult bit if you aren't using the auto-leveling system, you just then swap the lights and insert the adapters job done.

It only becomes a bit mpre difficult if you fit the auto leveling system but you can use the sensors off the V5 and Kufatec do a loom to connect everything up :afro:

Personally I haven't bothered with auto leveling - I just use the dash adjustment wheel if I need to.
