Insurance,any ideas?
« on: 08 April 2012, 15:07 »
Well since I've had my mk5 dsg I've collected a few points!!
Can anyone recommend a decent and cheap insurance company as mine is due again soon, and I don't fancy paying £2990 again, :sick:I've  got 9 points! But will be off my licence very soon, however am I right in thinking ALL insurance companies require you to declare points going back 5 years?
Any hep would be very grateful!

Yep 5-years iirc. tbh honest any insurance company are going to look at the car you are driving plus the points and think "kerrching!"

I am currently with Elephant on my Mk4. Although as the missus is insured with them, and because they are part of Admiral, I got a great deal on a multi-car policy. £70 saving on a standard quote from them!

Give quotemehappy a try - they're a trading name of Aviva so shouldn't be too shabby if the time comes when you need them!

600 beans fully comp v 1200 with Admiral... know who I'm going with come renewal time!!

If the policy states you can drive other vehicles with the owners permission then yes.. but it will be 3rd party only. Note the owner is the keeper named on the V5.. be very careful as fronting is frowned upon, and if insurance co suspect you of this in an accident they wont pay out!

I think you can only get the GTI insured fully comp so you don't want to be driving round it 3rd party. Get yourself as the policy holder.. putting the mrs on and any parent(s) (if they have no points) as named drivers can dramatically reduce the premium!

Note tho that it's not every insurance company that wants your 5yr history, some are 3yrs....

Fronting is also illegal, so don't think of it as a way of getting cheap insurance - it could prove to be very costly in the long term!
