Flashing Water Temp Light
« on: 05 April 2012, 21:37 »
my water temp light intermittently flashed even if the engine is cold.

Anyone know why? Apart from the light the car seems to be running fine.

Check your coolant level. It is also a low coolant level indicator light. Is it just the coolant light coming on or is the temp guage showing max as well?

Then it sounds like you coolant might need topping up.

I'm having this problem to ( http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=226545.0 ) I ended up having to replace a rusty leaking pipe, topped up with new coolant, but it's still flashing :(

before trying this, i'm assuming there is enough coolant your expansion tank to short the probes

The 2 pin plug that connects to the top of the expansion tank, disconnect it and short the 2 wires together. Start the engine, if the coolant light still flashes, i havent a clue, (clocks :undecided:) If it stops flashing, the electrical side is ok, and the problem is pointing to the probes. check the connections are clean on top of the probe assembly, and the plug.

Make sure the engine is cool, remove the expansion tank cap, then remove the probe assembly out the top of the expansion tank. clean the probes and refit.
