various ways round the issue, advantages and disadvantages of them all.
duffing a thick ass plate on the bottom of the std sump is the cheep solution and to be fair it works done loads of them at work but it can come back and bite you in the arse. it will wear through again at some point or as happend with the company tit about / dyno b!tch car. you duff the sump really well and snap an engine mount bracket off.
fitting a shallow sump reduces oil capacity that in itself is not a problem but its less oil above the pickup so lower cornering G's will leave the pickup high and dry so adding some baffels is a good idea. as said oil cooler helps but if its going to get the large doses of pedal an accusump is a very good idea.
fandango sumps are another option, at one point we had a batch of really tough shallow winged sumps cast for the 1.8t for both inline and transverse application but in the end we decided against useing them and specked drysumps instead where needed.
drysumps the proper solution, most expensive of the options above but worth the money offer advantage of been abel to do away with te chain driven oil pump so engine or car can go lower still offer some performance gains and remove oil suge completly. cost 2 k for a cheep kit tho
