Is this....
« on: 04 April 2012, 16:24 »
expensive?

Took the car to VW for its MOT (£39 quid, cant complain) car fails (as i expected it to) some silly little things like rear fog bulb, drivers wiper blade :embarassed:. Handbrake is not releasing properly, they said it would most likely be dirt and would strip the brakes down and clean them (£36 to do this). Big cost is from the front wishbone bushes, was recommended to get new wishbones which would come with the bushes and ball joints, to get the front wishbones fitted and brakes cleaned and my £39 MOT the cost would be £250, is this a not too bad price or is it to expensive?

So they want £170ish parts & labour to change both wishbones? Doesn't sound too bad for genuine parts & VW labour tbh.

However you can get wishbones, bushes & ball joints on eBay for £40:

I've just had my bushes replaced went for r32/TT/s3 rear bushes and superpro poly front bushes with new ball joints

Rear bushes and a ball joint cost about £28 from euro car parts with forum discount and superpro poly front bushes £26 from awesome gti

My mates a mechanic and has full use of the place he works at on a saturday so i get cheap labour
He charged me £30 for fitting the bushes and a good condition pair of wishbones and a ball joint he had lying around thrown in as well so i only had to buy the bushes and one ball joint.
