« on: 02 April 2012, 23:41 »
hi,  one thing after another
the golf is a clipper, both doors used to operate with remote cenral lokking but alarm is disabled and central locking dont work. The key fits the drivers side and boot but not the passanger lock so door dont open, i attempted to have a look but struggling with the door card
I cant take the arm rest off, i got two screws out under the rest but its fixed somehow at the top of the slim section, i dont want to wrestle with it so please help. Also the door card seems to fixed at the speaker but cant find any srews around the the speaker, are they on the inside of the speaker that i cant get to??   i also thought of taking the door handle off on the outside but could find 1 screw to undo.
What a fail
greatfull for any help, thanks.

Have you tried popping the door pin up from the inside to unlock it???

to get the door pulls/arm rest off undo the 2 screws in the arm rest, turn the unit about 90 degrees and it will pull out, the end is a slot with a groove so once it goes into the door it wont pull out.

The plastic trim behind the door opening lever needs popping out, underneath there is one screw remove this and the surround will be off, under there the door lever is held in place with 2 bolts and the check rod that goes to the mechanism it's self.
But they are not accessible with the card in place.

If partialy removing the door card you will need pop it as close to the fixings as possible or you run the risk of pulling it out of the door card and damaging the card. so use something hard plastic, using metal like a screwdriver will scratch any paint work.

Depending on the type of speaker pod fitted the later ones are screwed to the door its self and the card at the front.
But the screws are in at the end that faces the front of the car so not too accsesible.
There is usually one screw painted to match the card colour.
Once you have popped the card free you may be able to get the the sloenoid rod and give it a push up wards.
They are usually located in the bottom left corner for passenger side at the lock side. so hopefully you may be able to reach it.

The outer door handles are held in by 2 screws one under the trim on the outer handle and one inside the door shut, which again you cannot get too because the doors locked.

Good news at least.

Mine had the pins removed and LEDs fitted in the place.
I wanted to return the car back to standard but the fitters had removed the rods that they screw onto.
I bought a second hand set inc outer locks as my door was not unlocking via the key.

It was then a case of refitting it all.

The problem you have is that the plastic lock lever on the MK1 has only got 1 hole in it, this is usuall connected to the Door Pin.

So I changed mine for MK2 ones which have 2 holes in them (available from the VW dealer 75p each), one for the solenoid rod and the other for the pin rod.

My solenoid had got water into it and it was no good so bought a new one.

I noticed that the fitter had cut the door slightly and the rubber bellows that cover the actuating rod had been rubbing against the cut and split, this was letting in water which caused the thing to fail.

So I got an old pen a light blue Barclays one and cut 2 spacers from it, so now the solenoid is now away from the sharp edge and moves much more freely.

Hope that helps a bit.

I was told about the MK2 fitting by another forum user.

Looked them up on ETKA and orderd, picked them up next day. White for passenger side and Black for drivers side.

You should still be able to lock and unlock in the normal manner whether you have solenoids or not.

Mine had failed in 2 ways along with the door solenoid not working,  I couldn't open my door as there was a spring missing out of the lock catch mechanism, so it was jammed.

I could still get in the car via the drivers side as the remote locking on that side was working via the remote fob and the key.

So mine both work off the remote locking and with the key..
