Disc Lip

Surely there shouldn't be a lip forming about 1cm from the edge of the rear disc? Warrenty issue after 35k miles? Fronts are fine, also both rear discs are identical. Anyone else got similar miles?

There was a discussion in the US forums, I think they said it was normal. They mentioned the brake pads don't go to the end of the disc.

Someone else can expand on it..

As endy says, the pads don't go right to the edge of the disc [this is normal, it's the same on any car] so it's normal to have a line there. As your mileage builds up the line will turn into a lip or ridge as the discs wear. Don't know how much mileage you've done but the rear discs shouldn't wear as quickly as the fronts, if you think they're wearing prematurely see the dealer.

Yes this is normal, but i have read somewhere that these have been updated and the new discs are a feww mm smaller to stop this and for quieter braking on the rear ?

Rear brakes do wear much faster than they used to due to ESP getting over exited and braking individual wheels even when you wouldn't think it needed to.

I was suprised by how much brake dust I was getting on my rear wheels on my Passat, even on long, motorway trips. So, the next long motorway jaunt, I tried it with the ESP turned off. Low and behold, 250 miles later and spotlessly clean rear wheels.

I would have thought it unusual that the pads dont go to the end of the disc, the fronts certainly do.

VAG rear discs have been like that for decades.
Nothing to worry about,
