Arrrgh! Bird lime!!
« on: 27 March 2012, 20:02 »
I come out from work and to my car this afternoon and I see on my roof two 'splats' from a bird. Okay, I'll get home and get it off. I gets home, put the car in the garage. I get a couple of sheets of 'plenty' type of kitchen towel, get it warm and place over the affected areas for a few moments. Wipe away and guess whats left...its only gone an etched into the paint!! I have tried using Menzerna Intensive polish + Megs MF app pad and worked it into the paint, then followed by PB BH and then toped it off with PB Nattys. Its is slightly less visible, but a pain.

The car has had two coats of Nattys, the last was on Saturday, so I can not see how it has gone straight through that and etched into the paint. I guess now the only solution is a re-spray??

Tip from yours truly!

Keep a microfibre cloth in the glovey so as soon as you see some bird poop ect, simply (i know it sounds disgusting) but spit on it just so your not rubbing dry caked on crap then wipe away...

This is what I do and to be honest I go out to the car to check it over before I have to leave to do any journey just incase there's deposits left on the car, of course this wud be a bit difficult if your at work of course but as I say always carry a micro....

A really great alternative to gobbing on your microfibres is to get yourself a quick detailing spray.. Provides correct lubrication!

   mate!

I only do it cus I don't keep any lub in the car just the micro and like to get rid of the crap before it eats into my paint like panthera has found!
Not really bothered me with what people think

Anyway a proper lub is better "granted" and im not disbuting that but unless your a valeter you general won't have any cleaning stuff on you....so unless you want it to start eating your paintwork do the next best thing....which is what I do!

A micro is much easer keep on ya!

Well, yesterday I went to see a body shop that my dad has used and a friend recommended regarding the roof and the other bits I want doing.   The person I spoke to, Body Shop Manager could not believe that the 'bird lime' was only on the car for approx half a day and caused that amount of damage.  I will next a quote in the post and when I take the car in they will first try wet sanding and then buffing up, if that does not work it will be a roof respray.

It's official, the spitting is know more

Took some advice from Jimble and purchased some AG fast glass which will take pride of place next to a MF cloth in my side door...

Cheers mate!
