Cam shaft probs?
« on: 26 March 2012, 18:49 »
Hi there,I've got a mk 5 t fsi,and there's a problem as the revs will not go over 3000!.
I've just replaced fuel filter, but have been made aware of real big problems regarding the camshaft follower, which I'm told vw  have extended the warranty for this part as they have admitted it's a design fault!
Anyone out there had similar problems?
I'm not to sure what to do next,,,,,help!,

Don't panic.

If your car won't rev over 3k rpm it may be in limp mode for some reason. Try someone close to you who has a VCDS/VAGCOM cable and get them to read the fault codes off through the OBDII port. It should list any faults and give you some idea of what is going on.

Does the car sound okay when running at idle up to 3000rpm?

Thanks for your reply,
Me car runs sound up to 3000 revs then won't go any further,
It's even better now I've put new fuel filter on,but still no more than 3000 rpm,
Computer says there's air in me fuel! I've had it on 3 different computers now, all say different stuff!
I've read about the camshaft follower problems on nearly all f tsi engines, and I believe vw have admitted the problem and extended the warranties to 120.000 miles for this part. Problem is getting vw to find this problem without renewing every thing,ie fuel pump, maf sensor, injectors etc etc.
I'm gutted cos every car on the motorways overtaking me!

There are many issues that will cause limp/safe mode to kick in to save your motor. Don't try pushing past this until figured out. The cam follower, throttle body, and more will cause this to happen and are covered under extended warranties. Best to take it in and find out which applies to your issues.
