R-Tech
« on: 23 March 2012, 15:30 »
Hello,

I'm new to the forum, so firstly hi !

I have a quick question - I would like to (satge 1) remap my Golf GTI MK5 - R-tech show a Stage 1 map on their website for £200, but having phoned them they've told me that the cheapest price is actually £290?

Has anyone had a £200 remap or know why I've been quoted £290 (I'm wondering if the person on the phone made a mistake)?

If I do have to start paying towards £300, I might shop around elsewhere but heard good reviews about R-tech...just feel that a 50% hike in price means that I need to put more thought into who I choose !

Thanks in advance.

VAG REMAP = AUDI –SEAT – SKODA – VW
Years 2003 - 2008 2.0TDI PD/ CR - 1.9TDI PD / 2.0TFSI  & NA
Base Map            =  £99
Spec1 Performance       = £200
Spec1 Custom Map       = £290
Spec2 Custom Map       = £350
Spec2+ HPFP TFSI        = £390
SP3 Live Custom Map     = £490 (bigger turbos)
DPF Mapping/ Hardware   = £695

£200 is for a generic remap which we dont offer anymore as we are finding car react better to the maps being setup on the rolling road, with data logging and map alterations to match how your car has worn and bedded in ect..    We can provide the £200 genric stage 1 as a mobile service, but you would still need to cover Bens fuel costs.

The way we look at it is if we have the tools, equipment to provide a better remap in house by using the dyno then why compromise?   Our mk5 spec1 custom remap have been getting some of the best results on rr days and reading upto 15-20bhp more than the generic stuff.

I think at £290 for health check, PCV remove check, DV remove check, rollling logging, pre remap power runs, 2+ hours custom map setup time, post remap power runs, TOP quality remap, graphs on a CD, free sticker and keyring (lol)  is a bloody good price which will never be beat.

Thanks for that additional explanation - I now understand the context...I thought there was a price hike with a few additional bits thrown in.

Understanding the positioning as to why the £200 service is removed for on-site remap and the additional power available through a custom map makes sense and helps re my decision making.

My car has done nearly 50k miles and is a 2006 (stock)...going for a bit of a driving holiday in a few weeks and want to ensure the car is ok with the remap...so your pre-checks provide confidence.

Is there anything obvious that it is likely that I will need to sort upfront based on your experience e.g. clutch, dv - trying to work out overall cost of doing this?

Also I'm guessing to go back to stock post remap is the £99 ?

Cheers

Thanks Maxx.

Out of interest, some have claimed a drastic mpg reduction - is this likely based on the same driving as pre-remap?

In addition I'm assuming the ecu is flashed - on another forum it is claimed that when the battery is removed the remap goes...can't believe that as surely the ecu is directly flashed with the map?

Cheers

Hi Nick,

I too have a mk5 GTI, you say your map gets 15-20bhp more than generic maps, what sort of numbers you talking about?

im looking at getting my 2005 gti remapped soon, engine code AXX its also the DSG.

If i wanted the car mapped and the DSG mapped as well, what kind of power and torque figures do you reckon i will be at?

and how much monies would i be looking at?

i only want to come to you guys, i have heard nothing but pure awesomeness about you guys!

Hello,

You looking around 240-245bhp and 260-300lbft depending on the actual software version,  most of the extra gain from a custom map is not on the peak power numbers its more to do with volume/area under the torque curve.  but from what we have been seeing from RR days the results from our custom mapping are getting some of the best number and smoothest curves.

With the R-Tech engine remap you will get a FREE base DSG map to up the torque limiters to allow for a stronger smoother peak torque area.  For £390 you can have the custom engine remap plus a custom DSG remap set to how you want it, rpm limiter shift limiters, launch speeds ect...  The results and feedback we are getting from the new DGS setup is very good.  The full R-Tech DSG remap offer as standard 30% quicker upshift speeds, full manual mode whih will hold the gear, S mode which will anticipate the best gear for speed,

Hi Nick ,

Do you guys do any free "time restricted" trials?

I've never had a remap before and want to make sure that I like it before I start parting with nearly £300 (or closer to £400 once I add insurance in).

I know normally within 5 mins of driving whether I'll get on with something or not - so a trial would be ideal.

If you don't do trials, do you have any mk5 gtis already stage 1 mapped that someone can be taken out in?

Sorry for the questions...

Thanks
