Why has me gti gone in to limp mode, when driving down a1 and hitting heavy fog? I'm not impressed!

Maf sensor, fuel. Fuel pump, air filter, I just dont know,!
Driving down a1at 80 mph then hit fog and power was lost down to 3000 rpm!
Any one out there that can shed some light on my mk 5 dsg .?
