fuel blockage somewere
« on: 22 March 2012, 16:32 »
hi all i have a mk1 golf 1.8 gti cab 1988 model and i will be going down the road and she would just lose power than it will come back again i have been told this is probably a fuel blockage but i have checked the fuel filter and pump and are all working fine she seems to be back firing a lot and this problem has already caused my n/s drive shaft to break any ideas on what it might be as i don't have deep pockets and i don't trust any of my local garages please help as the missus is threatening to have the car weighed in for scrap if i don't fix it soon.

just started her up and left her running for 10-15 minutes then drove her ignoring the drive shaft the old girl seems to be running fine will still drain the fuel out and put some nice new fuel in her and see how she runs fingers crossed will have some pics up of my baby on this site soon just have 2 excuse the rust

Had the same issue on my Mk1 a few years ago. After having the tank out twice, new fuel lines etc it turned out to be the fuel filler neck that was corroded and all the rust was going into the tank.

could well be but i have checked the top of the neck and there is no damage. i have a funny feeling that the guy i brought it off of in feb put some fuel from an 1936 subeam that had been standing for 3 years into it because the fuel he put in from the jerry can looked a bit of an off colour but definattley will check fuel tank 2moro

Have you not put any of your own fuel in it yet???

Fill it up with the good stuff and then tell us how it is.
