few little issues
« on: 21 March 2012, 00:27 »
hi,
i have a mk2 gti 16v, runs ok however there are a few issues with it:

1. the clocks dont light up so i cant see how fast im going at night! (headlights still work)

2. the electric windows dont work, maybe this is related to number 1?

3.not sure if this is an issue, but on all other cars ive had the idle gets lower when the car warms up, the idle on mine is about 1100 from cold and doesnt move even when warmed, is this an issue or normal?

4. slightly miss firing once its been but started up fine after bout 30 seconds

5 a few times a little red light flashes at me on the clocks but then goes away, is that oil temp or something?

not sure if this would make a difference but its had a performance camshaft fitted and something called a k star computer i think? something like that anyways

anyone got any thoughts? thanks

hi,

1. the clocks dont light up so i cant see how fast im going at night! (headlights still work)

Check the dash brightness adjuster where the headlight switch is, these often wear and a little fiddle usually get  them going.  If it fixes it, replace the switch.  If not, check all fuses and earths are plugged in by the fusebox..

2. the electric windows dont work, maybe this is related to number 1?

Check all fuses and earths are plugged in

3.not sure if this is an issue, but on all other cars ive had the idle gets lower when the car warms up, the idle on mine is about 1100 from cold and doesnt move even when warmed, is this an issue or normal?

I have a similar problem with mine (MK1) and this is caused by a faulty WUR (Warm Up Regulator)  Fuel pressure not adjusting once warm.  Check that it's getting power, if it is then the regulator is faulty.

4. slightly miss firing once its been but started up fine after bout 30 seconds

Not sure what you're saying here but again this could be related to the above

5 a few times a little red light flashes at me on the clocks but then goes away, is that oil temp or something?

When exactly does it flash?... Is it the water temp light or the oil?

not sure if this would make a difference but its had a performance camshaft fitted and something called a k star computer i think? something like that anyways

Have a look at http://www.clubgti.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=110662&highlight=k-star

K-star is an electronic piggyback fuel and ignition mapping system.  (old school digi add on for K-jetronic fueling systems)

thanks.

il look into the WUR and everything.

The little red light that flashes is the one inbetween the battery and oil symbols/lights

i cam accross another issue today, the rear washer doesnt work, well it does but the fluid doesnt reach the screen, there is a leak i think somewhere just above the rear window area as all the fluid just pours out onto the floor from inside the arch/bumer
any one know how to access the pipe? or had this problem before?

also ive had someone look over the car and they said that the rear axle bushes are perished and need replacing, is this a difficult job?
thanks again
