NOT SO FAST 150 BHP GOLF !!!
« on: 19 March 2012, 13:19 »
Hi,

My Golf struggles with power, splutters and a light comes on the dash. But turning off the engine clears the fault. This occurs after a few miles or racing down the road.

The warning light is a triangle with a circle around it and an exclamation mark in the middle of the triangle

I have taken the Golf into VW a few times and when the computer is plugged into the Golf, NO Faults are found !!!
And they say they cannot find a fault when driving it on the road.

VW have replaced the following in this order.

1. Turbo Boost Sensor
2. Turbo Solenoid Valve
3. EGR Valve

Has anyone seen this problem before on a MK4 Golf 150 BHP TDI ?  and how can I fix it ?

Many Thanks
Nick Branson - Leicester

well the light on the dash is a traction control light, sounds like your cars putting on the traction and slowing you down ha!

That's ESP

Does it only come on when "racing down the road" or when you take a normal drive to the shops?

Find a local independent VW workshop that you can trust.  Someone on here in your area is bound to be able to recommend somewhere near you.

Plugging in and fault code reading only goes so far.  You need someone who is a competent and experienced mechanic to properly resolve issues on your car - someone who's seen the issues before.

If VW have replaced those items and charged you saying it would resolve the fault I'd take it back to them and say 'I'll take it away and pay the bill when you've sorted it'.  If you've paid the bill already the get back there and tell them to have another go and not charge you because the work they did previously had no effect.

What discussions have you had with the VW dealer staff about the unresolved issues?
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

MAF's dont always throw codes and can display the lights you discribe.

Try disconnecting the MAF sensor to see if it eliminates the fault

The ESP will slow the car if your driving it very hard as in pulling off fast it stops wheel spin in the dry and wet.Have you tryed turning the ESP off ?

No mate, its TCS and ESP. Could be a problem with either.

My bmw has both the traction control and ABS lights coming on, they stay on anywhere from 5 minutes to a couple of days, as you can guess it stops the ABS and traction control working when they are on, do you have any other suggestions that it could be? I've taken it to a good garage and the bloke really is good, but he can't find the problem, he even had it in when the lights were on and still couldn't find anything wrong.

That will be a abs sensor on the way out. Both linked together.
