well thought i would start a thread bought the golf in september 2009 fvwsh 127k t&t etc had only done 7k miles in 3 years, completely standard unmolested except for the a8 rs8 reps which were in a sorry state aint got any pics of it when i bought as they all stuck on my old pc yes its broken il add a few pics when i get a spare bit of time to do so as the golf as been a pita since day one but all is good now that i have a better understanding of the car as i didnt know a thing about them when i bought it
it was a standard car which most will know what a mk4 looks like standard

next on my to do list was to get a cai kit and change the dv which looking back on it was a stupid idea but we all get them after this was to get it sat a bit lower so went for 40mm springs and tbh the ride was still great and wasnt to low but i just wasnt happy with how high the front still was another 10-15mm lower on the front and it would of been perfect

also got some chrome wing mirror covers to cover my broken cover on the drivers side again i wish i hadnt

had some plans for the car and on a trip to manchester and back the dreaded oil light came on just as i was getting to birmingham so late at night with snow coming in and boom broke down recovery came and he checked car over and said you have seized your engine

at this point i was gutted so after several hours of transporting the car back to south wales it was parked up and left there for a further 3 months as i lost all interest and love for it only pics of it i have in the snow.after 3 months i finally sourced an engine from an a3 1.8t which had only covered 49k miles

next on the list was to get rid of the wood trim so off to halfords to get some gloss black aluminium silver plastic primer and some lacquer

its not finished in the pics but has since been redone

as i was confident using rattle cans now as never done any sparay painting before i decided to brighten up the engine cover in gloss white and got some blue conduit pipeing and ram air filter as couldnt afford silicone hoses with my wedding coming up in a few weeks

next was my birhtday and the lovely wife had won me a brand new cat back stainless exhaust on ebay for the sum of £140 posted i was well chuffed only downside was the tail pipes sat below the rear valance with it being lowered concerned me so off to the nice chap at powerflow exhausts to get it rectified oh along with a nice 4mo rear valance from the stealers

i love special occassions and next up was christmas well the lovely wife had gone all out this time getting me a fmic which she had won again for £140 posted along with some new drilled and grooved discs all round

after going to the in laws for my christmas present they had bought me a new boost gauge which i was well happy with and is still working fine to this day

time to get the boost gauge fitted so bought a cheap gauge podand some blue vacuum pipe off ebay and got stuck in

next up was a r32 front abs reps were unheard of or cost a small fortune and gen was out of the question as i couldnt afford it so a fibreglass rep came up for sale on ebay that it would of been rude to leave it there as it was also brand new so it was painted gen grills were ordered along with lcr splitter and it looked the nuts and tbh it is one of the best reps iv seen and after 2years it is still holding out with very minimal stone chips just as an abs bumper gets

next up i won some super pro bushes courtesy of r-tech with a little bit of fun competition they done on gti forum nick true to his word sent these to me thanks nick

next on the list was to fit fmic and after an absolute nightmare and cracking my bumper the fmic came strait back off and was put in the box and sold that was the end of that

next up was our wedding anniversary so the wife got me a surprise gift which involved a trip to r-tech nick and the team were great and highly recomends re maps as an anniversary gift

well after the car having a few issues and being down on power after 3 hours nick and the team did get me some good results it was a little less than i had hoped for but none the less it still put a whopping big smile on my face

some of the faults were blow off valve yes i know it is crap and has been replaced with 007p, leaking pcv system, weak actuator, heat soak due to the ram air kit, dodgy maf and a few others next thing was to get it the problems sorted out asap

after selling the fmic i used the money to buy some jom coilovers from dpm performance

due to work i just didnt have time to get all the little things done to the car so the coilovers sat in the cupboard for a while next up was to source some wheel spacers as doing my research i knew i would need them to clear on the front so found some at a decent price went for 5mm for the front and 15mm hubcentric on the rears

now it was nearing my birthday again and the wife asks what do i want i say i dont want a fuss or anything expensive to which she says ok and asks for the details of where i have found the wheels that i want after 2 years of finally deciding she then contacts bm autosport and places an order for a set of bbs ch 18x8 reps in silver which i love i know they are reps and if i wanted 2k wheels the wife would probably get them but i just cant justify paying that amount of money for a set of wheels but like i say im very happy with them

whilst at r-tech nick and ben advised me to get a catch can installed to which ebay was the cheapest option being on a tight budget so along came my next mod

the fittings on the ebay catch cans are rather small so i knew a engineering place that i have used in the past to make me some 19mm custom fittings and they were the nuts excellent quality and stainless

next up was to order some 19mm silicone pipe silicone tip and found some brand new silicone boost pipes off another forum member on gti forum

work got underway on installing catch can and boost pipes

after all boost pipes were fitted the engine cover had a fresh lick of paint and started to colour a few other bits in the bay its far from finished but maybe one day it will get sorted

never really liked the look of the black gauge pod so bought some headliner fabric from another forum member who was installing an anni headliner and started to cut and cover my pod as couldnt justify paying the price for one already covered and it looks more oem and doesnt stand out like a sore thumb now

after fitting the catch can it was looking rather ful so off it came to emptied it really is surprising how much crap gets caught in there

upon removal of the catch can i noticed there was oil residue where the top connects to the bottom so decided to seal it up with some gasket seal and has been ok since doing this

next up was to get the coilovers fitted not got any pics of them fitted with the old a8 reps on but they looked ok

and now it was the sunday before ultimate dubs 2012 i didnt intend on going as been no end of times but was picking up some anni skirts off another forum member for a very good price as good as new and never been painted anyways it was the day before ud's and trying to get tyres for my new wheels was well a nightmare as i wanted a little stretch but none of them had the size i wanted in stock so settled for 225 40 18 which are better than i thought they would be

heres how it stands now coils are wound down all the way on rear with bump stops removed front still has 20mm left to go down

all polished ready for ud's

whilst on a 700 mile road trip to the lake district the car was scrubbing on the rear this was after it was raised 20mm gotta say it looked spot on which has lead to other ideas now

and managed to get the best mpg iv ever got in the 1.8t

next up i managed to find an abs rep r32 bumper brand new for an absolute bargain and i mean a bargain but after picking it up i still preferred the look of my fibreglass bumper as the grills just did not fit the abs rep at all so it was sold to a mate for a small profit begining to wish id kept it now though as you do

i also allready had as a gift for christmas from the wife a brand new gen anni rear valance diesel version along with my anni skirts from ud's later in the year which was now all i wanted to get the car finished along with a gen r32 front but then as you do i thought id go for a full anni kit as i had two thirds of it trying to find a anni front valance was summat of a challenge and managed to find a new unpainted one on uk-mkivs off tom the bluefox for a good price and gotta say he is a sound chap cheers tom

now i was all set to go i was happy with the engine mods so wanted to concerntrate on getting it looking nice on the out side plans were to go full anni kit as i have now got it all with us front rubstrip was meant to go for paint the week i got back off holidays in may then i dropped a bombshell and changed my mind original plan was to go smooth rear with anni valance anni skirts and r32 front now i just couldnt decide as the wife keeps telling me to keep the r32 front and stick to original plan but finding a gen r32 front is getting harder and when they do come up for sale they cost a small fortune...on the way home from inters the wife says stuff it why dont you get a full respray lol

2 days ago i finally decided to go for anni skirts smooth rear and r32 front went to see my mate to get it booked in as he works in a bodyshop when he decides to do a full resparay at a price i cannot turn down so now im back to a i dont know what to do situation do i go for full anni as i already have it or hold out and get a gen r32 front to many decisions one day it will be finished then the wife says when its had a full respray we will get all the inside re trimmed somehow i think im keeping the golf for a while thanks to all for taking the time to read and will update with some more when it gets done

fitted pipercross panel filter yesterday that was purchased from dazveedub in mint condition cheers daz mate

and today found r32 front and rear bumpers for sale in mint condition never been damaged come with arch extensions on both and front number plate plinth for what was a bargain to say the least
