Surely this is just a classic case of spend alot to save a little? Would you have been better of with a 1.9tdi golf/audi/seat for 2k?

Are you going to try out negative equity next, or buying a timeshare?

You know some things don't need your appreciation - like hard drugs an alcoholism.

If you've never appreciated a kick in the knackers, just walk over to me and ask next time you see me.  Here to help etc.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Yes it will depreciate but then all new cars will, and it is something that we must accept if we want a new motor.

However.... Should he have brought a 2k pd diesel. IMO no. Tax, mpg, insurance grouping, will all be excessive in comparison to the new polo. Keep it long enough and it will outstrip the pd car in savings many times, resale will be higher as well due to the "greener" credentials it holds.

I can guarantee that he wont keep it long enough to get even close to making these savings because it will be such a dull underpowered car. If he got a 2k run around your looking at 1k max per year insurance then £250 quid a year tax. Solid engines and 'less electronics' in terms of ecodrive monitors and crap will keep maintainence costs at an absolute minimum and as for fuel cost you have to rev the balls off the little buggers to even get anyware so savings are minimal. I am not an advocate of eco cars, don't even get me started on the sustainability issues of buying a brand new car to save money.....

Someone has to buy new cars, otherwise there would be no used cars would there?   If you can afford it then why wouldn't you do it?

It's worth noting, I pay £1100 insurance on my 8v GTi, I got a quote on the new Polo, which is actually quicker than what I am used to and it's £400! first year insurance is free too.

All servicing is included in the first 3 years and tax is only £95 instead of my current £240 odd I pay now. Not to mention things going wrong constantly and things still aren't fixed which bugs me.

Right now I feel the decision for a new car is my better option as almost guaranteed knowing my luck I would get a 'good' second hand car and I'd still end up paying a good few thousand sorting it out.

People will always moan about new cars but it's what's right for me right now. I may regret it, or I may love it but it's what I think is the right decision right now.
