What if I replace just the drivers barrel with a second hand barrel and key? Someone selling one for cheap ;) will the central locking work etc?

Just means I'd have to use 2 keys :( ?

Just looked on Vagcat, its saying 40 Euro for a new barrel specific to your car/keys.  You need to supply the VIN etc when ordering.

"lock cylinder with housing / * to retain the one key * * system the key code * * number and/or chassis * * number must be quoted * * when ordering *"

Don't suppose anyone knows if the passenger barrel is the same as the drivers barrel?

I was thinking, I can change the passenger barrel which is in perfect working order with the drivers barrel, then buy a de lock kit off ebay and blank of the passenger barrel?

Also when I press the central lock button on the door panel which locks all the doors whilst the car ignition is on, the drivers door doesn't open again once I've done that so I'm gonna have to break into it again, what could that be, is it just cause I need to use the key to open it or would it be a central locking problem?

just replaced the door lock which was from a scrap yard, could it be that I got the wrong type of door locking mechanism? It seemed as if I got it from a 1.8t or 1.9 golf which would of probably had remote central locking, is that causing my car to be on lock down once it's locked? Never happened with my old lock in..
