there is differences in the systems. but yes a 16v system will fit an 8v

there is 3 PAS racks

non-Gti - lightest to turn
8v gti
16v gti - heaviest to turn

the difference

I have read that the 16v PAS rack is slightly 'quicker' than the 8v PAS rack, which would be why it feels heavier as Gambit said :)

Hi mate ive just finished converting my E plate 8 valve to power steering i used a driver on a j plate.Things to watch out for you need all of the drive pullies including crank and water pump, lower  steering columb section (2 uj.s with bar) .I would stick to an 8 valve because of this good luck it worth it .

8v with 195/50/15 is bang on, plenty of feedback and easy to turn in if car driven well
Stuck in the 80s? Nope its a 92!
