HELP! MK5 2005/2009 TFSI engine transplant.
« on: 15 March 2012, 20:10 »
Hope someone can offer some guidance! I have a 2009 29,000 mile TFSI motor and dsg box for sale.(this engine was going to be transplanted into my mint MK2 gti), however i am chickening out and settling for the much easier TT motor swap. The engine is for sale and the interested party has a manual 2005 TFSI Gti motor with 90,000 that has just gone Pop! He wants the 2009 motor to mate to his manual box but has been told that there may be differences and that the swap may not be straight forward. Can anyone offer any help or advice? Until yesterday morning i had a 2005 Gti also..... but it was T boned at a junction!!!.... so may even have another spares package up for grabs yet !!!! many thanks in advance. Ssyncross.

As long as they are both tfsi belt driven GTI tfsi engines it will be a straight swap. The wiring will be the same. If the 2009 is a new GTI TSI engine then there are a LOT of differences. The ecu, wiring loom etc are all different.

Many thanks for the response. The potential buyer has gone quiet but no worries.....might put complete motor on eBay and see what happens. Cracking on with mk4 motor into mk2 tho. Again, many thanks, Syncross.
