Hi, yeah id seen that but mines 83 reg, im sure i read somewhere mine didnt have the lift pump thing,or was that a in tank pump?. And all manuals and stuff ive read says upto 83 then from 84 onwards.
I know from years ago VW used older and newer stuff on models thru the years. And 83-84 was when mk2 arrived.

Don't think yours will have an in tank pump, just the pump on the outside with the accumulator.

Your fuel pump relay is in location 2 of the fuse box and often the relay itself is labeled with the number 2.

With the Relay removed you can test if the pump runs by bridging the top and bottom connections for it on the fusebox, terminal 87 and 30 for the relay (the top and bottom large connections in the fuse box for that relay.)   Ideally use a fused wire and only run it briefly.

If it runs, the relay is probably shot. If it doesn't then either the pump or the wiring to it has a fault.

No problem...

No reason why you can't test the pump off the car.  Give it 12v off the battery (with no fuel lines attached and away from the vehicle). It might be worth you doing a continuity test from the pump end of the wiring to the fuse box while you're down there.

If it is fecked then I've seen a few new ones on ebay recently. Also, CrazyQuiffs still sell them I believe.
