Backyard - Concrete to Lawn
« on: 15 March 2012, 11:20 »
Hi

Looking at a house, it has a huge back yard, but 95% of it is concrete

Would i need permissions to change that to Lawn?

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

i wouldnt have thought so. Usually need it to change it to concrete due to loss of natural drainage area. Would need to phone your local council to be sure as they all vary on this.

No. No permission needed.

Only caveat to that is if it has drains going underneath it. Any manhole covers?

Old builders trick  is to bury all the waste and crap in a garden an then concrete over it.

You'd be doing your neighbours a favour as they wont have any water run off going into their gardens.

They did this old trick in the house we live in, they filled up what used to be an outdoor pool with rubble so in the summer the grass goes orange where the pool was lol

No manhole covers anywhere to be seen

There are 3 big pipes coming off the building and going down into the concrete, looks like toilet, water and roof gutter

Hopefully i can get some sort of blueprint (not holding my breath on that) to see what's underneath

You should get this information as part of your survey pack.

obviously your pipes will be your storm and soil pipes as long as you dont break them while taking out the concrete you can just cover them over with sand chippings and then soil and turf but as said check with your council as different councils vary but personaly cant see you having any problems
