Each to their own. Nice little internet site he has at www.keith.grone.co.uk Good to see he is enthusiastic.....
I personally feel motor sport in general is under exposed. We all like VW's for various reasons, own them and use them for different things.

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

I never even saw the posts that this guy did and as stated previously it was put in one of the less used forums and as topher said, an hello in the new forum members would without a doubt have drummed up some support. To berate all people of this site in a very immature and childish manner is pathetic. This is a golf gti site, it has various sections for various reasons, just because someone is racing a mk1 doesn't make me cream my pants but fair play to those it does but track days etc are only a small part of this. I enjoy the shows, seeing others cars and what they have done to them, getting ideas and getting p1ssed at the weekenders and meeting up with people from here, that's the way I am. I am not a race boy (I drive a cabby FFS how could I be....I'm not an hairdresser either by the way   ) and as far as I know, apart from the bits of paint I've had done, it's standard VAG with not a flip in site !

I fail to see how this makes me any less an enthusiast than this guy, if anything I choose not to thrash an automotive icon around the track and risk smashing it up ! lol    If this guy wants to go to ClubGTI then so be it, it's a shame as I'm sure once he used this site he would have enjoyed it, maybe joined in on other sections and he would have been a good source of knowledge, but that's life I guess.  :undecided:

By the way, my sons only 5 1/5 and he's a right footballer so if you don't all come and watch him in the world cup 2020 captaining England then I'm going to go and join "Corsa's are us" forum and maybe even start supporting Everton.

FFS Freddy boy, get real and think about it.
......now officially dubless.

I personally enjoy trackdays
Why have a car with trick suspension ,trick engines etc etc and then not using it to its full potential seems a bit of a waste to me .
ALL SHOW AND ALL GO but you won't let it  ??
Much more freedom on the track , a lot cheaper in the long run compared to risk of getting fined with all the speed cameras, camera cars etc about .

BEDFORD AUTODROME is ideal as it has large run off areas and when I was up there last time no one knackered their cars. and there were a good 20+ out at the same time NOBLEs, EVOs,SCOOBYs,TVRs,CHRIS MARRs TURBO GOLF RALLY ( very quick) And other much slower cars including my old vento .  Unless you drive like a total d!ck you are unlikely to have any probs.

BUT HEY "DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS"

For some people though it is not about "all go", i personally enjoying seeing what can be acheived given a standard engine and all that can be done to it.

I.E. i now have a old 1800 valver block, which has been bored out to 2000cc and runs just off 190bhp. without any turbo or massive induction.

By the same token, what is the point in car manufacturers releasing G60s, Turbos, Superchargers, 5.0 blocks??

They can all double the national speed limit, yet how many do you think see the track? 0.1% maybe.... and thats a slim maybe.

My point is, regardless of engine size or what it can do, they are more than likely to never see the track.

with the exception of fielder I don't think there are any boy racers here that go out purely to race around the streets causing havok.

if we did we would of bought saxos and corsas instead of the more mature golf gti :D

we are alll enthusiasts at heart. just look at our cars. none of them have driven through halfords and got peices stuck on here there and everywhere and a list of names down the door none of which feature on our cars. How many bits do HKS make for a 106 again? ;)
