That is the most stupid idea I've seen, along with bra's. If you care about how good your car looks, you wouldn't cover it in tape or sh!tty bonnet water traps that must chafe the paint. The tape I don't get at all, cos it means 99% of the time the persons car looks sh!te, and only looks ok when they park it and walk away. I hate stone chips too, but if I was asked to ruin the look of my car, just so it looks good 1% of the time, I'd say you need your head testing. Don't do it my man, suffer the odd chip, then if you must, paint again in 10years. Don't be so wet ffs!

mk2bal - when your running about 200miles to get to a show i think a bit of tape isnt going to cause you any harm from time to time esp when its only a show car! its not a daily so itll only be put on when going long distances not to run it everyday! i agree with the bra etc but this as a one off to and from a show thats miles away i dont think does any harm..

dragonfly & X4MGS - cheers guys ill take a look into it :)

He's talking about a show car, that he want's no keep in A1 condition. You need to think of his car as an object that he cherishes, not as a car in the true sense of the word that is a tool for getting you to the shops and back.

It may seen allien to some people that others like to do this, but imagine you had an antique painting that you were taking to an exhibition. Would you just throw it in the back of a van to slide around, and risk getting it damaged? No, you'd make sure it was safely packed up and securely tied down. Same principle, different items.

I still dont understand how a small layer of tape is going to help prevent stone chips?

Throw any thing at 70mph at the front of a car Im pretty sure itl make a mark. Especially a stone.

Such a shame to have a mk2 "show car"

A wonderful drivers car that should be driven as often as possible.  Not merely cleaned, polished and looked at.

Of course it will prevent chips to the paint. It's the sharp edges of stone and chippings hitting the paint that cause stone chips. If the stone doesn't touch the paint, it can't chip it. Granted, it wont prevent dents, but how many "stone dents" do you have on your car.
