Just bought my first Mac!
« on: 15 March 2012, 00:12 »
Been toying around with the idea for a little while now.  Fancied trying a Mac for a while, but don't want to fork out £500+ to see how much I'm going to like it.  Looked at the new Mac Mini's, but was getting very seduced by the iMac.

Made an offer for £240 on eBay for a nice last generation Mac Mini and it got accepted

1.83GHz Core 2 Duo Processor
2GB RAM
250GB Hard Drive
Lion installed and a copy on disc

For the money I'm pretty happy with that.  Can't wait to have a play with it.

Not bad, most Mac Mini's get used as media centres but no reason why you can't run it as your desk top

Now you need a really large screen, otherwise it's just not as good, imo.
Passat B5.5 2.3 V5 170, with all the extras.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

That will do nicely :) I nearly bought a Mac mini couple years ago but went for apple tv's in the end as I already have an iMac.

Going to use the Mini as a media centre mainly.  Plan to install Plex and Airmouse so I can watch movies etc, and control the machine from my iPhone.

I think the previous owner might have upgraded the Mini a bit, or bought it well spec'd, I'm going to add a NAS drive to my network for extra storage though, and also add one or two USB hard drives to the Mini. Plan to have it all tucked away somewhere out of sight near the television.

I used Plex on my iMac & apple tvs is a nice interface to have. I have stopped using it now since they sorted out the atv flash media player on the apple tv.
