Mk3 cable shifter in a mk2?_
« on: 12 March 2012, 23:28 »
I've bin doing some searching around on this forum, mk2 owners club, club gti, ed38 etc they say to use a corrado cable shift but I can't find one anywhere (apart from one that was £400+!) I did however find something that said that the mk3 cable shift would fit but would need modding. What would need to be modded to get it to fit? I work in a metalcraft workshop so I'm kinda handy when it comes to making brackets etc.

Cheers
Josh

I think there's a small quantity of bending and maybe one of the brackets needs to be re-sited.

As far as I'm aware it's not a difficult fit to do.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Cheers. I think il have a go at fitting the mk3 one then, as trying to get hold of a corrado one is prooving quite hard

Not sure how much difference there is, as the Corrado is also high-tunnel, which your Golf2 isn't.

Think I'm using a mk3 shifter box, not 100% sure though, might be corrado, as I never removed it. I used  washers on the 4 bolts that bolt it up to the tunnel, these washers overlapped and held the box, whereas bolts without washers sat just outside the box. In fact I may have had to drill slight half moons into the box edge where the bolts sat, and added washers as the bolts shoulder wasn't enough. Once you drop the old one and offer up the new one it all becomes clear. I did mine blind, purely on feel with one side of the car on axle stands + fear of getting right under. A ramp/pit would have been nice
