corrado fuel tank into mk2
« on: 12 March 2012, 23:15 »
Doing a 20vt swap into my mk2 1.6 carb so.. I bought a corrado fuel tank when i was getting a g60 box for it and was under the impression it would fit my mk2 because of these people here:

http://vagdrivers.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=25850

but when I offered it up to the mk2 there was a gap at the top were the fuel filler neck bolts to the body and I could not get them to meet. I lost light as it got dark and had to leave it for another day. did i miss something? something obvious blocking it becasue everything else seemed to be in the right place, lined up.

Just to confirm, you bought a Corrado tank expecting it to fit into a Golf2 and the only bit that doesn't fit is the filler, where it should mate with the body?

Let me give you a hand here: The Corrado is mostly based on Golf2 underpinnings - pretty much most of the 'hard-points' are the same, but the body is quite a different shape.

And you're surprised that the bit that doesn't fit is the bit that mates up with the body?

If it's any consolation I know people have successfully fitted Golf3 fuel tanks to Golf2s.  A Golf3 tank should be a lot easer to find!

If you buy the tank out of a VR6 this would give you a combined in-tank lift pump and pressure pump to suit your 20VT
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

There are also 2 types of tanks on these. Early Corrados had 55 litre tanks, and later ones had 70 litre tanks. Fixings and associated peripherals may also differ slightly too.
