Wiring loom problems engine conversion
« on: 11 March 2012, 16:35 »
Ok so im transferring a late 89 1.8 gti 8v engine into an early 89 car engine is in and wired up however The car cranks but doesnt fire and theres 5 wires from the old loom and 4 from our donor car. What does this missing wire do and do I need to splice it in somewhere for the ecu? The old engine was a G60 and the engine transplanting is a 1.8 8 valve from an 89 and the shell were using is a 90. Can anyone please shed some light on what these different wires do and whether they are needed or not needed? As you can see the ecu only has room for the one plug and the old loom ddoesnt fit. Thanks for any help.

Heres the pictures of the loom from the donor car.

Heres the loom from the car were transferring the engine into

And heres the ecu

you need to swap the looms over  iirc DF1 has pins in diffrent places to DF2
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

How do you mean swap the looms over? I'm currently using the engine loom from the donor car as this was where both the ecu and the top loom with only 4 wires comes from and was used on weekends by me. So are you saying to use the old loom from the G60 engine?

Also could this be due to using the G60 fuse box with the 8v loom? I've heard Of G60s running off an 8v fuse box sO would assume it works the other way around maybe just need some plugs moved? Thanks
