hard choice :(
« on: 09 March 2012, 21:53 »
after long discussion with my dad , i have come to the conclusion that i need a car which is good on my money
my dad said he will lend me between £1000 and £1500 so looking at getting a 05ish astra 1.7 cdti is really cheap to insure and can get around 60-65mpg
i do a lot of miles nowadays easily 300+ per week so diesel i think would be better option
i had a look at vw diesels but all too much to insure
does any one have any experience of these astras or recommend any other cheap to run cars which aren't hideous

il will be back to VAG as soon as i can looking to get some sort of project maybe a caddy or mk1 golf

If the Focus floats your boat, then you can get one for a similar price to the Astra. And they're cheap to insure too.

and astras dont

Right,

1, any astra for that price will be a DOG

2, 60 -65 mpg        yeah right, unless your doing ALL motorway driving it Like miss daisy then you WONT be getting anywhere near that in the REAL world figures.

so, I will make a suggestion

a, look for a 1.4tdi 3 cylinder polo.

b, you will get better MPG than the astra, wont have the DMF issues and will get a better car for your cash

c, search on here for the one that Diamond hell, horney, then me and finally  The Doc own/owned.

its taken a right load of abuse, a remap and its still spanking along

I will return with a suggest or 2 in a mo

Unfortunately with reviews, all you'll ever see is the people with problems moaning about the cars and fewer people praising them because most cba to post a good review.

i would love one of them polos but there a lot more to insure than an astra and i would have my own money to put towards too so budget of around 2-2.5k
polo is around £1800 a year whereas astra is £1300
