Potential buyer, really unsure!
« on: 08 March 2012, 22:11 »
I drove my mates 115bhp GTdTi diesel with 160k miles yesterday, I was amazed at the quick acceleration, pity the car was a dog :) But today I drove a 1.8T GTi (150) with 126k miles, a nice drive with no rattles etc, but I was very disappointed with the performance. I know they can be chipped but is it worth it for price/performance?

Thanks.

Diesels are all talk i mean torque

1.8t are borin without a map it's worth spending a little to gain a lot in performance and wen I say a little just make sure it's running ok, put air filter and uprated diverter valve on it and your good for a remap.

If its for fun get a petrol, if it's for a lot of mileage go derv

Standard 150bhp is not that good / quick but a remap will make a lot of difference.

Acceleration is far more fun that simply realising your going fast.  Hence the diesel being more fun.

From personal experience, a PD TDI chipped is far "more fun" that a chipped "1.8t"

for the amount a remap costs it's well worth doing and 1.8t's are fairly nippy with 200bhp

Stick an ABF in a Mk2 and it will be just as quick as a mapped 1.8t :lipsrsealed:

I also noticed a couple of rust bubbles at the top of the A pillar at the very top corner where the windscreen is. There doesn't seem to be paint chopped. What would be the issue there?
