Trade Plates and the law

I've just brought a MK4 Golf with no MOT or tax and need to get it about 20 miles to my dads garage, he said that he would get a lorry to pick it up but he's now struggling to get one that isn't booked up to come and get it.

He said he will give me his trade plates and I will be covered for tax and be on the garage insurance, is this true? I'd still get done for no MOT though right if I was stopped? I'm really not keen on the idea and my dad isn't very law abiding when it comes to things like this so I wanted to clear things up regarding this situation.

Book an MOT, pick it up and drive it straight to the MOT station.

Do not stop anywhere on the way to the station.

If it fails, drive it directly to where it will be repaired, repair it and drive it directly back to the MOT station.

You will be covered and you will be able to justify your actions in the unlikely event you get pulled.

Not stopping along the way to do stuff is essential to this, BTW.

If you're insured, and have the correct permissions for use of the trade plates, then use them!
A to B journey only, absolutely no stopping/parking etc is permitted

does it need to be today, why not just leave it there till he can get someone to take it.

orr say to the guy if your so sure of this then you drive it, that way your not risking not being insured, getting cought with no mot ect ect ect.

I'm about to do as DH said, only issue is the car is gonna need fuel. How do I do that? Or is it Jerry can only?

I don't think you will have a problem with filling up, but would keep it to a station on the path to the MOT station

If an officer wants to be a dick about it, it wont really matter what the situation is

There was a thread in one of the police forums regarding a jap car that stopped at a filling station, car got impounded etc.

Yeah fuel is different its a necessity!
