Car ditched after 2 days of washing!
« on: 07 March 2012, 16:40 »
I have a Golf Mk V GT TDI in Reflex Silver and this is proving to be the most difficult car for me to keep clean. Even after a really thorough 3 hours washing the car, it looks fantastic for a day or two then as soon as we have rain the windscreen wipers seem to throw the rain water onto the same part of the car where it stays and dries and gets really dirty. It's always just above the drivers door before it meets the roof makes the car look like it's not been washed at all! Also the boot sill gets absolutely ditched the day after a wash and just looks horrible. Is this the same for other Mk V owners and is there a way to prevent it from happening?

I used to keep my old car sparkling with just a wash every week!

What wax/sealant you using? If it is protected well you shouldn't have too many problems...  :undecided:

I'm a big Autoglym fan and always use there products. Do you think it could be because the surface isn't smooth enough for the rain water to run off? Think giving it a run over with a clay bar would help?

A proper clay, polish and wax will make it easier to keep clean, but due to the aerodynamics of cars, certains parts of them do get dirty very quickly.

Whatever colour car you have, it will still get the same amount of dirt on it, but silver has to be the best colour for not showing it too badly.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Cheers mate! Yeah I also thought silver was the easiest to keep looking clean. I had an old vectra in silver that could have gone a year without a clean and you wouldn't have noticed

Funnily enough this is more difficult than my old car which was dark blue to keep shining!

Thanks for the advice from the two of you, i'll try and give it a good going over with a wash/clay/polish and wax and sealant and see if it helps. Might try switching to Meguiars too as everyone seems to love them.

There are soooooo many different products that you could use which people rate highly. If you have AG products use them, but perhaps get some nattys wax/or a DJ wax, see if that makes a difference!

Look's like a great site, gonna order some stuff. Is this Dodo Juice stuff good then? Seem's quite fond on the website! Also do you have any ideas of what I could use as an alternative to a pressure washer/hose? Always had to just throw buckets of water over it before washing to dislodge the dirt, not really the most effective method.

Ideally you are looking at snow foaming your car before hand, youtube it if you don't know what it is, you'll enjoy the watch  But that involves having a pressure washer and a lance and then the chemicals, quite costly I feel.

Failing that just pressure wash it first, then dive in with the wash. As Guy mentions, waxamomo is a good site with loads of help and product reviews on, DJ is great stuff, I am a massive DJ fan. They sell the small panel pots if you'd like to try out different products.
