mk4 golf hub removal help
« on: 05 March 2012, 21:21 »
Is it possible to remove my front hub without removing my wheel adaptor? as I had my pads done last year and looks as tho the mechanic has put my adaptors on with windy gun . And I cnt free 2 bolts off. They are rounded off ( same as gf LOL ) I have tried loads if sockets . Bolt extraction tools and heat and gettin no where . Looks as tho the 2 bolts that are stuck have bitten into the ally spacer . So now thinking can I get the hub off and heat the hub from behind to free it off .
Gone but still keeping a close eye on it...

Drill out the rounded off bolts and use and extractor to get them off or weld a bolt/nut onto it.
Don't really see what heating it from behind will do need to heat the head of the bolt up to release the tension :undecided:

Your telling me a stud removal tool won't get it out? Get a massive one, drill a hole that is smaller than the stud extractor...Surely that shuold work?

That is a pretty bad situation mate...Sorry mate

take it to a garage, easiest possible way, will save a lot more time messing on when you can give it to someone thatll be able to do it in a few mins.

surprised you cant hammer a smaller socket onto them tho.

johnny were you worrried the spacer will melt with weld? dont be, they take some heat to disfigure.

why do you want the hub off? or is it just for the adadptor?

Not worried bout it melting just disforming but if u say they take some heat its ok . It's booked in to garage tomorrow. Just want the adaptor off so I can change all the adaptor bolt to ones with a stronger head . And also gettin wheels powder coated so will need them off so i can put winters on LOL
